How much is the Machu Picchu ticket for students?
It’s time to travel to Peru and one of the things that come to mind is exploring the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, the major attraction in the country. In this post, we’re going to explain to you how to buy your Machu Picchu tickets for students, since they have a different treatment than buying regular tickets for adults.

Are you still unsure about how to buy your tickets? Don’t panic! Check out our post How to buy Machu Picchu Tickets online step-by-step and make sure to get your tickets. However, as we said above, if you’re planning to travel along with your kids or you’re a student, then you have to read the following information.

First of all, if you’re traveling with kids under 3 years old, the good news, the entrance is free for them. Just make sure to take your kid’s passport on your visit date. Now we will explain how it works for older kids & students.

  • Kids between 3 – 17 years old. They have a special rate, they pay as students. Many sites say they have a 50% discount but note that since 2017, rates have increased a little. The new rate for Children under 18 years old is 70.00 soles (22.00 USD).  The purchase is either online or in-person at the office of Direccion de Cultura del Cusco:  Calle Garcilaso S/N Museo Casa Garcilaso, Cusco. (See the map below “Centro de Pago”).

The purchase is either online or in-person at the office of Direccion de Cultura del Cusco:  Calle Garcilaso S/N Museo Casa Garcilaso, Cusco.

How do I get a student discount?

Make sure your student card features the following items (mandatory):

  • Name of the University.
  • Student’s name.
  • Student’s photo.
  • The expiration date is clearly shown on your ID card.

Note: The only way to get a discount for students is by providing your student ID card, issued by the University you attend with an expiration date on it, no other document such as student certificates or enrollment is valid. On the other hand, the ISIC card (International Student Identity Card) is no longer valid since August 1st, 2017.

Please, notice that if you buy a student ticket online, you have to show your passport and your student card on your visit date. If by any chance your student card doesn’t fit the requirements above, you’ll likely not be able to get in.
