2 New time schedules for visiting Machu Picchu

According to new implementations taken by the Cusco authorities, Machu Picchu changes its entry schedule starting July 2017. This measure has been taken in order to regulate the flow of tourists to Machu Picchu.

So, the 2 new time schedules will be as follows:

• A first group starting from 6:00 hours until 12:00 hours.
• A second group that enters from 12:00 hours until 17:30 hours.

In addition to this new regulation,  the measure indicates that all visitors wishing to enter Machu Picchu must carry their ticket to Machu Picchu, their official identity document (passport)  and must be accompanied by a tour guide.

With these new regulations, the local authorities want to contribute to the safeguarding of tourists physical integrity, especially at-risk sites, as well as for the conservation of the cultural heritage and the organization of the tourist visit. They have also pointed out that the staff is allowed to require the ticket and/or identity document inside of Machu Picchu to make sure that the time schedule is respected.
Note that the tour guide will have the responsibility of entering and leaving the tourists he’s leading of.

How do I get a guide in Machu Picchu?

At the gateway to Machu Picchu, you can find lots of tour guides that offer their services, so you’ll be easily joining a tour group. On the other hand, you must consider your visit time if you’re planning to hike any of the mountains (The Huayna Picchu Mountain or the Machu Picchu Mountain).

Either you have booked the first group (7-8 am) or the second (10-11 am), you should arrive very early, at 6 am for example, that will allow you to hike the mountain as well as visit the Machu Picchu Inca citadel properly.
